Figgers Foundation, religious leaders partner for turkey giveaway in Quincy

The Figgers Foundation is partnering with faith-based leaders to hand out free turkeys to families in need for the Thanksgiving season.

The turkey distribution takes place 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at New Life Ministries of Quincy, 640 S. Shelter St.

Roughly 700 turkeys, from 14 to 18 pounds, will be given to families after community and religious leaders assess how many turkeys are needed. Interested families must sign up.

“When human beings in our communities are in need of love and a helping hand, we willingly rise to the occasion,” said Freddie Figgers, founder and CEO of Figgers Communications, in a statement.

Figgers said the goal is to encourage people who may have lost hope: “With care and understanding, we do our part during the Thanksgiving holiday to maybe help someone forget for just a moment life’s trials and tribulations.”

The Figgers Foundation is the outreach arm of Figgers Communications, a telecommunications company headquartered in Fort Lauderdale. It’s the only Black-owned telecommunications company in the country.
